Adisseo

Our Organic Selenium in feed: Selisseo®

Selisseo® is a unique, pure and reliable organic form of selenium that helps animals fight oxidative stress.

Selisseo® is the only hydroxy-selenomethionine on the market that is able to fully deliver the benefits of organic selenium to an enhanced stress resistance and immunity, optimal growth, a better reproduction performance and a higher quality of the end products.

❏  Selisseo® consistently provides animals with 100% hydroxy- selenomethionine (OH-SeMet), a pure, readily available and active form of organic selenium.

❏  Selisseo® leads to higher selenium deposition in muscles thanks to higher SeMet transfer to the tissues.

❏  Thanks to its technological properties, Selisseo® is able to fully deliver the benefits of organic selenium to obtain an enhanced stress resistance and immunity, optimal growth, a better reproduction performance and a higher quality of end products.

✔ Selenium (Se) is an essential nutrient for life. Selenium (Se)  has established requirement from 0.1-0.3 ppm to support basic functions.

Although inorganic Se sources are commonly used as feed supplements, recent research has clearly confirmed that organic Se sources. and specifically selenomethionine (SeMet) and hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet) in particular, are much more efficiently utilized.

✔ Selisseo® is a pure source of OH-SeMet (EU registration 3b814). At the 2014 SPACE exhibition in France. Selisseo® received the highest 3-Star InnovSpace Award. This award recognizes new product innovation.

✔  Selisseo® is stable. It can withstand extreme feed processing conditions, including high temperatures and pressure.

Selisseo® is safe and easy to use. Its consistent particle size without fines makes it safe and easy to mix in the feed, with low dust levels.

Selisseo® is reliable. It provides 100% active OH-SeMet batch after batch.

Selisseo® is 100% efficient. It contains 100% OH-SeMet and is fully absorbed by the animal.

What is the difference between Selisseo® and SY that provides improved results?

The concept of organic Se is to provide Se in the form of selenomethionine (SeMet), the only Se species that can be both utilized for selenoprotein production and safely stored in the body to build up Se reserves. An animal can utilize its store of Se during times of increased oxidative stress, when the need for Se is higher. These Se storages are key to maximizing all the benefits of Se.

However, only 63% of the Seleno-Yeast (SY) of Se is in the form of SeMet – and this percentage can be quite variable.

On the other hand, Selisseo® provides 100% of Se as OH-SeMet, thus ensuring an optimal Se reserve and supporting the performance of animals.

Learn more about the composition of SY in this video below, which summarizes the findings of Hachemi et al., 2023.

Performance immunity reproduction in Ruminants

The mineral selenium is essential for a wide range of biological processes in cattle including; growth, milk production, immunity and reproduction.

Any deficiency has a negative effect on the health and performance of cows due to a decline in antioxidant defencesoften combined with stress. Cows can’t make selenium; it must come from their diet.

The form supplemented determines how much selenium is available to act as an antioxidant.

Selisseo® is a 100% pure source of hydroxy-selenomethionine, with a high level of bioavailability, backed up by science.

  • Why hydroxy-selenomethionine?

To obtain answers to these questions, listen to the explanations of Pierre-André!

Michele DE MARCO, Global Technical & Scientific support of Selisseo®, describes:

  • The origin of oxidative stress in livestock farming and its lipid peroxidation,
  • Protein and DNA oxidation effect on the organism, which leads to a decrease in performance.

Michele explains how Selisseo® helps overcome oxidative stress.

  • Is Selisseo® available in powder and/or in liquid form?
  • What about its chemical form and its stability when processed?

To obtain answers to these questions, listen to the explanations of Anne Sophie Conjat, Global Business Manager of Selisseo® at Adisseo.

Garros Fontinhas, the South American Regional Business Coordinator, is talking about the different sources of selenium that are currently available to feed animals.

He explains the benefits of OH-SeMet (Selisseo®) in terms of absorption, deposition and the formation of selenoproteins.

A heat challenge?

The only hydroxy-selenomethionine on the market, fully delivering:

  • The benefits of organic selenium for enhanced stress resistance and immunity,
  • Optimal growth,
  • Better reproduction performance and
  • Higher quality of end-products.

Helping broilers performing under heat stress

It is the only hydroxy-selenomethionine on the market that is able to fully deliver the benefits of organic selenium.

It enables:

  • An enhanced stress resistance and immunity,
  • An optimal growth,
  • A better reproduction performance and
  • A higher quality of the end products.

Improving nutritional value of meat

In general, eggs and meat are considered to be good sources of selenium in human diet.

The level and source of selenium present in poultry feed largely influences the selenium content in final consumable products.

Optimizing poultry nutrition is a solution to be considered to alleviate the potential nutrient deficiencies of food or increase its nutritional value.

Selisseo®, a pure form of organic selenium, is highly bioavailable and allows great selenium deposition in tissues.

Maintaining meat color stability

After slaughtering, meat discoloration during storage may lead to consumer rejection, thus economical losses.

Meat color is influenced by a number of factors including ultimate pH, pigment content, myoglobin and oxidative status. A discoloration of meat frequently appears after 8 days storage.

Selisseo®, a pure organic selenium has shown to reduce the speed of discoloration and increase potential storage time.

Making additional profits by reducing drip loss

Drip loss alters the perceived quality of meat in retail by the consumer. It also negatively impacts its juiciness and its conservation.

Research has revealed that drip loss is correlated with the oxidation of proteins in muscles. Proper supply of antioxidants through nutrition can contribute to reduce oxidation happening in chicken muscles.

Selisseo® is a pure organic selenium based antioxidant, which can help reducing protein oxidation and drip loss.

Reducing mortality in broilers production

Birds are challenged all along the production cycle: hatching, transportation, high temperature, high density, diseases… These stresses affect performance and can result in increased mortality.

Mortality in broiler flocks represents lost income to growers and integrators. Improving the antioxidant capacity of animals through nutrition is a solution to be considered to reduce mortality in flocks.

Selisseo® is a pure organic selenium based antioxidant, with high potential for counteracting the negative effects of oxidative stress.

Stimulating the gene expression of several selenoproteins in broilers

In animals 26 SeCys containing selenoproteins have been identified, all having essential functions, several of which directly detoxify oxidants. In chicken tissues selenium availability and stress are the main drivers for selenoprotein expression.

Selisseo, a pure form of organic selenium, provides adequate selenium levels for SeCys de novo synthesis and selenoprotein gene expression and activity.

.

Selisseo® helps increasing profit in poultry production (Booklet)

Selenium (Se) is an essential nutrient for life, with established requirement from 0.1 – 0.3 ppm to support basic functions. While inorganic Se is commonly used for feed supplements, recent research has firmly confirmed that organic Se, specifically selenomethionine (SeMet) or hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet), is much easily integrated into body metabolism.

Selisseo® contains 100% hydroxy-selenomethionine, a pure and highly available form of organic selenium. Under oxidative stress situations, animals have the capacity to respond through enhanced production of selenoproteins, thus needing high supply of Selenocysteine (SeCys).

Selisseo® with its greater induction of SeCys synthesis is key to improve the ability of animals to whistand stressful physiological events such as birth or reproduction, but also challenged environment and health issues.
