Implications of low protein diets in broilers: challenges and opportunities

Sustainability of animal production is becoming one of the top priorities of the animal sector encompassing raw materials production to the final food delivered to the consumers. The fundamental aim of these concepts is to address the supply of affordable food to people by ensuring the highest sanitary safety level in the feed-food sector.

Animal production is often singled out as a significant player in global warming, soil and water pollution through animal excretion. Therefore, many countries are putting strict regulations in place to limit nitrogen excretion and its related emissions from animal manure. Accordingly, low protein (LP) diets are the focus of numerous academic research teams who are addressing this subject from various angles.
