New article on “Prevention strategies against Streptococcosis in tilapia production”

02/04/2021

Infection by Streptococcous agalactiae is a major challenge faced by tilapia production. The impact of Streptococcosis is mainly counted by the farmer as biomass loss resulting from mortality and lost growth.

Besides, the bacterial infection affects fillet quality and yield in fish that survived the disease, which results in an additional significant economic impact at the fish processor. In collaboration with the University of Londrina (Brasil), Adisseo has explored functional additive solutions to deal with Streptococcosis infection in tilapia production.

A recent article at Panorama de Acuicultura shows the efficacy of Sanacore® GM and Bacti-nil® Aqua to reduce the severity of infection by 17% and 6%, respectively. This study contributes to the body of evidence towards the efficacy of Sanacore® GM and Bacti-nil® Aqua to prevent disease and to maximize profitability across the supply chain of tilapia.
