Methionine supplementation is often needed to improve the nutritional values of plant-based feeds for shrimp. The most common methionine forms of supplementation used in the animal feed industry are DL-Met and DL-OH-Met (hydroxymethionine).
DL-OH-Met is available in liquid and powder presentations, and is widely used by the poultry industry. Several studies have previously demonstrated that DL-OH-Met can be as efficient as DL-Met in meeting the dietary Met requirement of juvenile whiteleg shrimp when fed low fishmeal diets.
A new study corroborates the similar bio-efficacy of DL-Met and OH-Met fed to juvenile whiteleg shrimp reared under high density in a green-water rearing system.
