The best practical way of controlling mycotoxin levels is to use rapid test kit systems for the analysis of mycotoxins in raw ingredients, which have not yet arrived in silos. Different rapid test kit systems have been validated for different mycotoxins and commodities. They offer a very quick and effective way of screening a raw material before it enters a feed mill thanks to an antigen-specific antibodies technology. Once the levels are known, each feed mill can estimate the quality of its raw ingredients, in terms of mycotoxin contamination.

Two different quick tests are available thanks to partnership with worldwide companies; R-Biopharm and Charm.

Another mycotoxin risk management strategy is to test for the presence of mycotoxins in finished feeds. The most important advantage of such an approach is that each raw ingredient can introduce its own mycotoxins into the finished feed. However, if only some raw ingredients are tested by means of rapid test kits, other low inclusion (5-10%) but important raw ingredients can be missed. Nonetheless, these may still be causing significant contamination of the finished feeds. An accredited laboratory service is required for this step.
